Dear Parents,

This past week we completed three tests on Friday; Spelling, Reading, and Math.  Please look for these in your child’s work papers.  I was pleased with most of the grades and have already set up help time for those who did not do so well.  At this time some of the difficulty is getting use to the testing situation and format of the tests.  I can already see the improvement in reading tests and I am sure as the class continues all grades will rise.  I am very proud of their positive attitude and focus.

This week will be a short week and you will be seeing the reading text book come home on Wednesday.  On Monday or Tuesday you will see the small reader from their reading book come home with a reading response question to answer.

Math homework will continue to come home nightly.  If you feel you need help to understand what your child has done, first look at the colored sheet that came home with the homework (blue border).  If that does not help you I am logging the children into the Go Math site and you will be receiving a log-in for you and your child to get extra help at home.

In science students have been learning about animal groups and how they meet their needs and how they are different.  I am very proud of their work on display in the hallway.  In about two weeks you will be hearing about a habitat project your child will be responsible for.

Thank you for working with your child at night and signing their agenda.  Please remember to tell me in the agenda of any transportation changes.  Also, please remember that if your child is absent, the absence is unexcused until the school receives a note that meets qualified explanation (see agenda).

Your child should have an A.R. book to read.  All students have been to the media center and will now go at least once a week if not more.  I expect all students to read two books a week and take two A.R. tests a week.  At their levels this should be do-able.

I am enjoying your children and they seem to be catching on to the second grade expectations.  It is fun to watch their eyes light up when they learn something new or are able to share what they know.
